Canada is bidding to host the

38th International Geological Congress 2028

12-20 August 2028, BMO Centre, Calgary

Geosciences for Humanity

The International Geological Congress (IGC) is the premier conference for the advancement of global Earth Science. It takes place every four years in a major city, attracting > 6,000 geoscientists from across the globe - akin to hosting the Olympics for Earth Sciences. Canada is preparing a bid to host the 38th IGC event in Calgary, in 2028, with a proposed theme “Geosciences for Humanity”.

The history of the Earth, from its infancy 4.6 billion years ago to the present day, is captured across North America. Against this backdrop, we will explore our human environment, climate drivers, resources essential for modern-day life, mitigation of natural disasters, corporate social responsibilities and Indigenous reconciliation.

We invite you to support Canada’s bid, which will be presented at the 37th IGC in Busan Korea (August 2024). For more information, please contact us: info@igc2028canada.org.
